Located within the central square at the heart of Edinburgh’s Quartermile development, the conversion of a former retail unit into Umega’s new workplace combined a comprehensive Cat A refurbishment with a tailored Cat B fit-out. The result is a vibrant office shaped around the culture and ambitions of its workforce.

The initial phase involved securing the change of use and transforming the retail accommodation into a flexible office setting for the landlord. Building fabric, services and internal layouts were reconfigured to establish a high-quality foundation suited to modern occupiers.

The subsequent Cat B fit-out was developed specifically for Umega and reflects the energy and personality of its young, dynamic team. Practical workstations are balanced with collaborative areas, informal meeting settings and social spaces, allowing employees to move easily between focused work, teamwork and relaxed interaction throughout the day.

Bold colour, graphics and integrated branding bring individuality, while warm finishes, comfortable furniture and playful details create an approachable, welcoming atmosphere.

The completed project demonstrates the value of a coordinated approach from landlord refurbishment through to occupier fit-out, transforming a former retail space into a flexible, characterful workplace that supports connection, collaboration and Umega’s continued growth.
